Air Conditioning

Air-Con Re-Charge and Servicing (Leamington Spa)

If your air conditioning isn’t as cold as it used to be, smells musty, or takes ages to clear the windscreen, it’s probably time for an air-con service in Leamington Spa. At T & H Motor Services, we carry out air-con servicing, repairs and diagnostics for all makes and models — helping you stay comfortable in summer and safe in winter.

What air conditioning actually does

(and how it works)

Your A/C system circulates refrigerant through a sealed loop. In simple terms:
  • The compressor pressurises the refrigerant
  • The system removes heat as the refrigerant changes state through key components
  • The evaporator cools the air that’s blown into the cabin
  • Moisture is removed from the air at the same time, which is why A/C is brilliant for demisting
That moisture-removal is exactly why air con is so effective for winter windscreens — it helps clear condensation quickly, improving visibility and safety.

New gas and old gas systems covered

Different vehicles use different refrigerants depending on age and system design. We can service systems using both newer and older gas types, so whether your car is brand new or has a few years behind it, we can help.

What’s included in a typical air-con service / re-gas?

A proper air-con service is more than “just topping it up”. Typically, it includes:
  • Checking system pressures and performance
  • Recovering the old refrigerant safely
  • Vacuum testing to help identify leaks and remove moisture
  • Recharging with the correct type and quantity of refrigerant
  • Adding oil (where applicable) to support compressor lubrication
  • Basic operational checks to confirm cold-air performance
If we suspect a fault (for example, a leak, a weak compressor, or an electrical issue),
we can move from servicing into diagnostics and repair to find the cause properly.

Don’t ignore a broken

A/C system

If your air con isn’t working, leaving it can lead to bigger issues. Low refrigerant can reduce lubrication in the system and may contribute to compressor wear over time.
Small leaks can also worsen, turning a simple fix into a more expensive repair. If something feels “off” (warm air, bad smells, noisy operation), it’s best to get it checked sooner rather than later.

The pollen filter: small part, big difference (especially for allergies)

Your pollen/cabin filter helps trap dust, pollen and airborne particles before they enter the cabin. If it’s blocked or overdue, you might notice:
  • Reduced airflow through the vents
  • More misting issues
  • Unpleasant odours
  • Worse symptoms for allergy sufferers
Replacing the pollen filter at the right interval is a simple but effective way to improve cabin air quality—particularly in spring and summer.

Why you should run air con all year round

Using your air con regularly helps keep seals lubricated and the system operating as intended. Even in winter, switching A/C on (with heat) helps demist faster and can reduce the chance of the system becoming sluggish from lack of use.
